ARKANSAS

Insurance Commissioner Julie Benefield Bowman suspends Capital Assurance Risk Retention Group’s registration certificate. The commissioner took the action against the South Carolina domiciled risk retention group fearing insolvency.

CALIFORNIA
Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and Ehnes, director of the Department of Managed Health Care, announced a joint action against PacifiCare companies, owned by UnitedHealth Group, in response to more than 130,000 alleged claims handling violations.The collaborative effort is the first ever by both offices against a single health insurer.

COLORADO

The insurance department has ordered Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and The Hartford Group to refund $5.7 million to consumers. The insurance department found both companies’ operations suffered from “billing errors and inaccurate record keeping.”

CONNECTICUT
